Unlike the traditional TV that transmits through Cable, satellite or terrestrial broadcast, IPTV provides subscribers with high quality interactive TV programs and other entertainment contents over IP networks. In addition to Live TV, IPTV enables interactive video entertainment like VoD, nPVR, and Time-Shift TV. It is also possible to provide such value-added services as web, e-mail, game, T-commerce and so on. Architecture of IPTV solution Huawei IPTV solution is provided in partnership with CASCADE Limited － who is a wholly own subsidiary of PCCW and supplies the middleware already adopted by the worlds most successful IPTV service, PCCW Now TV, serving more than 450,000 subscribers. Huawei IPTV solution provides a total IPTV service architecture based on Huawei advanced access network.  Component of IPTV solution As a comprehensive end-to-end solution, Huawei IPTV solution involves broadband network, IPTV middleware, TV Headend, VOD system, media contentprotection system (CA/DRM) and IP STB. IPTV Middleware IPTV Middleware works as the IPTV core platform. It implements whole-course management of IPTV by providing TV-Portal/EPG, the management of user, service, channel/package and program together with charging function and service statistics. The middleware provides abundant API interfaces to integrate with the OSS to help operators deliver IPTV services in a large scale and in a faster way. In addition, it integrates with VOD system, Headend, CA/DRM, STB and the network realizing automatic service deployment and user access control. TV Headend. Huawei IPTV solution involves also the digital TV Headend that is composed of MPEG Encoder, IRD, A/V Router and so on. TV Headend provides MPEG2 or MPEG4 AVC/H.264 Live TV contents to STB. It receives, demodulates and decrypts video and audio content from a variety of sources, such as satellites, terrestrial, studio and storage. And convert it through compression techniques into IP multicast encapsulated MPEG streams. Encoder, the core part of Headend, implements real-time encoding and transcoding of MPEG2 and MPEG4 AVC/H.264 through the hardware, and also rate shaping, rate converting and IP encapsulating. VOD system Huawei IPTV solution integrates a powerful VOD system, which enhances audio/video on demand services. The VOD system consists of Streaming Server and content distribution management system. This system is adopted to deliver VOD, nPVR and Time-shift TV when integrated with Middleware. Apart from this, supporting distributed CDN structure enables it to distribute the contents intelligently and to achieve a flexible location of central server cluster and edge server clusters, facilitating thus large-scale deployment of VOD. Content protection system Huawei IPTV solution supports innovational and cost-effective contents protection technology, Network CA for Live TV and session-based encryption for VOD. Network CA is based on Huawei SmartAX DSLAM, which provide powerful multicast and controllable multicast features. And also Huawei IPTV solution can integrate third-partys CA/DRM system to provide perfect contents protection. All media contents are protected by the CA/DRM system, including live TV and on-demand contents. IP STB Huawei IPTV solution provides Echolife series IP STB, which support MPEG4 AVC/H.264 and MPEG2.
