Routing switchers are the heart of a broadcast studio and are used to interconnect a wide array of products. Routing switchers can be categorized by port count, either as small (32x32 or less) or large (up to 2048 ports). System implementation can be in a number of architectures depending upon the port count and system features. Small routers can be in a compact format with a full-enclosed unit on a single card, while larger routers may consist of a modular design and multiple chassis.

In addition to the crosspoint switch, reclocker and cable driver, the routers control and power systems include National products rangingfrom voltage regulators, Bluetooth® wireless technology and amplifiers to interface products such as RS-232 or RS-422 for linking to control systems and networking products such as Ethernet which allow network-based status and control via SNMP for remote monitoring.

Component Highlights

* Adaptive Cable Equalizer - Automatic cable equalization of coaxial cables. Superior jitter performance.

* Crosspoint Switch - These crosspoint switches utilizing LVDS (Low Voltage Differential Signaling) technology for low power, high speed operation. Data paths are fully differential from input to output for low noise generation and low pulse width distortion.

* Reclocker - Automatic rate selection to recognize and automatically adjust to up to 4 different data rates.

* Cable Driver - Drives high data rate signals to coaxial cables.

* Control Interface  Easy-to-use, low-cost interface to control system.

* Network Interface - National offers a high-performance Gigabit Physical Layer device.
