The Alcatel Voice Streaming Portal Solution is a new solution that leverages components of Alcatels OPEN (open path to enhanced networking) portfolio. This lightweight softswitch solution provides a low-cost and efficient approach to distributing IP audio content to circuit-switched networks such as PSTN or mobile in the very same way it provides audio content to customers on an IP network. This portal removes another barrier between circuit-switched networks and NGNs by allowing technology-independent audio service delivery.

The solution builds on the 5020 MGC element of the Alcatel 5020 Softswitch and is therefore especially (but not only) suited for operators already owning the Alcatel 1000 S12 Switch. In addition, the solution requires an Alcatel 7510/7515 Media Gateway (MG) as well as a media server, either an Alcatel or OEM product.

Users of this solution are network operators wanting to increase their revenues and service providers with carrier grade technology who are acting as large portal providers. The Alcatel Voice Streaming Portal Solution enables both types of customers to generate new revenues and more revenues in voice services, increase their average revenue per user (ARPU) and improve customer satisfaction. In general, revenue increases will range from 20-30 percent for content-based services, with the potential for a 100 percent increase in some cases. Current annual revenues of network service providers in Western European countries with value-added service numbers (e.g., 0180 or 0900) are around one billion Euros per large market-and growing. A 20-30 percent increase in revenues would translate into additional revenues of 200 to 300 million Euros.

Increased revenue for service providers: Allows the largest possible customer base to access the contents.

Reduced churn for network operators: Increased customer satisfaction and loyalty, contributing to reduced churn.
