Consumers are downloading files in ever-increasing amounts as they build their libraries of information, songs, videos and photos, turning their computers into entertainment vehicles. This change in the way consumers use their computers will create demand for high-performing desktops. These desktops will need the ability to store large files quickly and efficiently while delivering crisp pictures and a clear sound for streaming videos and playing MP3 files. To meet these requirements, National Semiconductor offers highly integrated Ethernet and high-end audio devices. On-board thermal management systems maximize the performance of the CPU and other various components. With worldwide PC shipments expected to increase, analog solutions will play a larger and more important role.

* Ethernet - delivers up to 1 Gbps performance with small size, low power, and full interoperability.

* RS-232 driver - the X5 receiver serial port devices have low power consumption and small footprint.

* USB switches - dual, triple, and quad ports support flexible USB system design.

* AC97 audio codec - provides a high quality audio path and all analog functionality in a PC audio system.

* Audio amplifiers - dual 2.5W audio amps with stereo headphone function save money and space, while individual dual audio amps and stereo headphone amps allow flexible system design.

* Amplifier in Mic - miniaturized packaging and new amplifier IC design merge in the innovative amplifier within the ECM.

* DDR termination - linear solutions offer the optimal approach of low cost with high performance and functionality.

* LDO, Buck switching regulators - National offers a wide selection of high efficiency, small footprint regulators suitable for desktop applications.

* Operational amplifiers - precision RRIO amplifiers combine low offset and low-input bias current to enhance the performance of any precision application.
